Reflection from Pastor Rachelle

Rev. Rachelle Brown, Provisional Pastor

I almost forgot…

Love’s memory is long.
As we move through the month of December,
we recall the many times we have been here before
with still so much to do
and so much love left unexpressed.

This season of expectation
leads us into other times of waiting
the lines and rooms
the plans and dreams
I almost forgot what to expect at the end of the waiting.
After all, if this is about having a baby, well
I have never had a child –
I cannot relate.

Yet, I have seen new life arise
from the dust of experience and
new dreams drape
across once dismal skies.

I almost forgot…
this is the season we can all expect love’s arrival
Jesus is the reminder that
Love’s promise is often kept in unexpected ways.

In a season where even evergreens turn dry and brittle,
God’s love is the one reality on which we can rely.
Today we prepare for the greatest expression of that love,
we watch for the star and listen for the announcement of Love’s arrival.

Giving Thanks This Season

Giving Thanks for a Happy Season

As Provisional Pastor, I am extremely grateful for the embrace I have received from everyone at aChurch4Me MCC. It is not always easy to have a stranger walk in to lead and guide. Yet, you have all been gracious, generous with your time, and loving. I am thankful for the energy each of your bring to the work of building aChurch4Me MCC.

Over the last six weeks, I have learned aChurch4Me MCC is a community who puts the spirit back into spirituality and faith into everyday life! Your work and generosity ensures this community of faith will thrive in the years to come.

I personally invite you to attend aChurch4Me MCC on Sunday, November 20. Worship begins at 10:30 with a Celebration of Thanksgiving followed by the annual congregational meeting. During worship and the meeting we will celebrate all of the 2011 accomplishments! Even if you are not a member, all are asked to stay for the annual congregational meeting to learn more about 2012 plans!

As we all know, this year is not over! Coming in the next few weeks are opportunities to reach out and serve others literally on Thanksgiving Day. We are beginning a Winter Coat Drive for homeless youth, so maybe you can provide a winter coat for those in need. In just a few weeks, we begin a new weekday series I will lead called “Homosexuality and the Bible 101.” Whether it is in worship or other events, I invite you to celebrate the life and love God has already given!

During these last weeks of 2011, it is my prayer that we can all continue to recognize the many gifts God continues to provide. It is also my prayer we continue to work together as we build this wonderfully radical, organic, living, breathing community to ensure there is aChurch4ME for everyone in Chicago!

Thank you all for your wonderful welcome!

Pastor Rachelle Brown

Finding Your Spiritual Location, Oct 9 to Nov 20

Where do you begin to describe what matters the most to you? Many things or people may be important, yet is there one or two things so significant that the word “necessary” or “sacred” only begins to describe how important they are to you?

These days, many people talk about spirituality, and it can be confusing. At aChurch4Me MCC, we believe everyone begins in a different place and with different experiences. This is why we approach spirituality unlike any other. Ask yourself, do you begin your description of spirituality with your thoughts from your head or feelings in your heart? Maybe you seek deep within for a mystical experience, or you find time with others as the most significant part of your life. Whatever matters the most to you is the beginning of your spirituality.

However you walk on the journey of living, it is part of a spiritual longing. The longing to live and feel alive is a spiritual journey.

Join in and discover your spiritual location beginning October 9 each Sunday morning, 11 a.m. at aChurch4Me? MCC.

Worship Series: ‘Rallying Together’ in September

Throughout September our Sermon Series will center on the theme of rallying together. This is not a new theme for followers of the Christian tradition. Jesus was notorious for gathering crowds; starting with two or three, and leading to the feeding of five thousand people on a mountain top. Scripture tells us that Jesus fed an entire village of people with five loaves and two fishes. Was this miraculous or was it simply that Jesus empowered people to engage in community with a spirit of giving and sharing? We continue to be informed as a people, by the ways that Jesus rallied together the people around him.

As AChurch4Me? weathers changes of  leadership and celebrates the pending appointment of a new pastor, it is time again for us to “rally together” as a people, renewed, rejuvenated, and recommitted to each other. Let us lift up our hearts in worship and open ourselves to the gifts of this worshiping community. This series holds many surprises and promises to be a celebratory one! Let us “rally together” with spirits anew!

Blessings One and All,

Finding Freedom Worship Series

Life is too short and sometimes we take it too seriously! Day to day stuff kind of piles up; we loose sight of our dreams and time moves by. We grow up; forget to have fun; and fear creativity or folllowing the lead of the playful Spirit.

This summer we’re reclaiming fun and joy, dreams and creativity as Spiritual Practices that lead us to align our lives with God’s dream for us.  Through all of our senses we will find our way back into God’s unfolding story and see how freedom in Christ is not only freedom that makes us free but also freedom to be authentically who God created us to be.

Celebrate and explore Freedom that sets us truly Free! Free from loneliness, free from fear, free from disappointment, free from addictions and obsessions and FREEdom for faith, love, hope, justice, joy and laughter.

Sundays 11a.m. at the National Pastime theater 4139 N Broadway Chicago

Breakthrough Living

Breakthrough Series

Break Through Living

Sometimes the journey is exhausting and though our intentions are noble, we just can’t seem to breakout of old habits or breakfree of patterns that fill us with anxiety, regret and worry; steal our joy; and sabotage our relationships.  We want a break or to break free. What we need is a breakthrough - in our hearts… our minds… our souls … our lives!

Join us Sundays in may and June at 11am 4139 n Broadway as we embark on an exploration of practical faith and everyday spirituality which hold the power to tansform.

Breakthrough is an invitation to L.I.F.E:

  • Let die old habits and patterns that lead to dead ends;
  • Imagine the possibilities;
  • Find greater joy, a sense of purpose and more enriching relationships – with our selves, others, creation and Creator;
  • Embrace the power of LOVE that breaks in, breaks us free and leads us to Breakthrough!
